Description
From 1921 , here is one of René Lalique's most interesting bowls. It is called "Gui" (Mistletoe) and it exists in two sizes, 20 and 24 cm in diametre. This is the larger one, "Gui Nr 1", 9 1/2" wide. It is in opalescent glass with hues of Blue, which is what makes the motif stand-out remarkablyThe decor is one of is Mistletoe, with the clusters of white berries and the leaves shaped like dragonflies. While the leaves are engraved in the glass, the berries and their twigs are sculpted. The glass, where thick, difracts the light into different colors (photos 3,4,8).
"Gui" is photographed and referenced in the big book by Felix Marcilhac, the unoficial "Lalique Bible", on page 751 of the 2010 French printing, under reference "3223" (Photo 10). The caption specifies that it was not continued after the end of WW2. The signature, R LALIQUE FRANCE" is engraved on the base. The Lalique reference (3223) is perpendicular to the signature
