Description
During his whole tenure, after his father's death in 1945, at the head of Maison Lalique between 1945 and 1976, Marc Lalique (René's son) alternated between modernizing the house's style and perpetuating his father's memory by designing pieces which "He would have drawn himself if he had had more time". The "Honfleur" series of 1955 is definitely among the latter as it includes 10 different sizes of sculpted plates and dishes ranging in size from Pin Dish (this one, 6 1/4" wide) to serving dish (13").The motif is one of geranium leaves in the spirit of René's Thistle and Dandelion series, but in much thicker glass as was the fashion 10 years after René Lalique's death. All French high-end glassmakers, Baccarat, Daum etc... started to produce very heavy glass vases, a trend which lasted until the mid-1960's.
This is the pin-dish, small and thick, 6 1/4" wide, 1 3/4" tall and weighing close to 1 Lb. The glass on the edge of the leaves is almost 1 cm thick, which by the way makes it very sturdy.
The signature is "Lalique France" and the
condition is excellent, with no break, chip or anything missing. There is no damage or imperfection to report.
