Description
You are bidding on a very rare original antique engraving from an 1870s French illustrated journal.It depicts a Laverack Setter, whch is an early name for a Llewellin English Setter.
Llewellin
Setter is a very specific, pure strain of "English Setter with bloodlines tracing back to the breeding program of nineteenth century sportsman R. L. Purcell Llewellin and Edward Laverack. Both played a key role in the development of the breed.
Surrounding the picture (and continuing to the back of the page_ is a long article on the Laverack Setter/ Llewellin Setter. It is in French, but free computer translation programs make it easy to translate.
The caption reads: Le Laverack's Setter
It is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture area is about 8.5 x 5.5 inches (21.5 x 14 cm), with a French caption below and text above it. The text could easily be trimmed before framing, or hidden under a window mat.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
